IDEARTISM vs.
REARTISM in Ten Different Colors. My Reflections on Art.
It was my birthday
yesterday and since I am transitioning to a more challenging and engaging year
of life, I decided to approach it differently and do something out of the
normal while the birthday wishes were coming in. I have been working on this
project for the past three weeks trying out several other designs before
settling on this one that I decided to manipulate into other several colors
with the help of the ever resourceful Sollo Kinuthia.
Orange – The color
of social communication and optimism. I have had my own share of these over the
past year. Its optimism and hunger for conversations that has brought me this
far.
Yellow – The color
of the mind and the intellect. I’m not so bad there. Still working on it.
Green – The color
of balance and growth. I have self-reliance as a positive and possessiveness as
a negative basing on this one. Let’s see how this year goes!
Blue – The color of
trust and peace. As much as I claim to be liberal and free-minded, there is
still some frigidity in here somewhere. This year, I am working on getting you
out too!
Indigo – The color
of intuition, idealism and structure. Well, I am an ideartist!
Purple – The color
of imagination. Sometimes, I have termed my own imagination as immature or
impractical. This year, I am going to stop being the one who is immature and
impractical.
Turquoise - The
color of communication and clarity of the mind. I see yoga coming my way this
year! I need this so much.
Magenta – The color
of universal harmony and emotional balance. Let my outlook on life be balanced
and global. So help me God!
Brown – A serious
down to earth color that relates to security, protection and material wealth.
Let this be the year I get to get browner hehe!
Silver – The color
or feminine energy. It is related to the moon and the ebb and flow of the
tides. Let the waves and the waters carry treasures to my shore!
In undertaking this
project and asking the question herein I decided to marry knowledge from the
two things that have consumed much of my time over the past three years – art and
politics. Ideartism is a term I have coined from merging two separate words
(idealism and art). It therefore implies art that is not on real subjects but
imagines the way things should be in art – free, risky, roaming, wild, out of
this world. As you would know by now, reartism is coined from the words realism and art. Reartism implies
art that simply embraces the true nature of things in illustration and imagination-
whether a drawing, poem or film. Anything!
If you consider
yourself an artist of any type, kindly comment below with your answer to the
question – whether you are an ideartist or a reartist and I will be glad to
reply back. Meanwhile, look out for more of such art coming out soon!
